PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA INVITES COMMUNITY TO ENGAGE ONLINE WITH MUSIC AND MUSICIANS DURING COVID-19 CRISIS

For Immediate Release
March 20, 2020

PITTSBURGH, PA—The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra today announced a series of online musical offerings for the community during the COVID-19 crisis, while Heinz Hall is temporarily closed:  “Extraordinary Measures” will bring together new music, music from the season and music for educating at home that will be presented throughout the orchestra’s digital spaces, including its social media channels and its web site.

“There is nothing like music to uplift and energize our spirits in the best of times—and, in the most challenging. While we’re not able to be with each other at Heinz Hall, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra reflects on our vision, ‘Great Music in Every Life,’ and will continue to offer music to you as we weather this crisis together,” said Melia Tourangeau, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

In a video message to the community posted on the orchestra’s web site, Music Director Manfred Honeck said, “My first wish is that you and your loved ones remain healthy and safe.  Over the coming days, we want to stay connected with you in the way that we know best: by making music.  Through our new initiative ‘Extraordinary Measures,’ measure by measure we will build a bridge musically to each of you, reaching out to you, wherever you are, with our collective sound, spirit and passion.”

The “Extraordinary Measures” offerings, expected to begin in full next week, are:
